EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

HOME & INTRODUCTION

I graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Health Education with dual minors in Health Disparities in Society and Sociology in August 2022. This portfolio highlights academic and professional achievements accomplished during my undergraduate studies. The homepage displays a portrait and a brief introduction. Next, the Home tab is the Introduction page, which contains the executive summary, resume, and personal Philosophy of Health Education.

ACADEMIC PREPARATION

The Academic Preparation portion of this portfolio contains three health education projects that have contributed to my educational development. From these projects, I gained skills in gathering, creating, and presenting health education materials. The first,  project, Childhood Addictive Eating, was a research-based project completed in Culture and Health (ANT 4662)This project investigates the neurological, biological, and environmental factors affecting addictive eating behaviors within children through peer-reviewed research. The second project, ResiSTIng Infection was created in Planning, Implementing, and Evaluating Health Promotion Programs (HSC 4713). The purpose of this work is to provide a logic model for a program aimed at reducing the transmission of sexually transmitted infections within Alachua County. The final project, Headstrong, is a group presentation created during Methods and Materials in Health Education (HSC 4302). Headstrong provides mental health information and educates on the detrimental effects of stigma, specifically for males within athletics. My group and I were given a target population (males) and location (Cheyenne, WY), and constructed health education materials alongside a live presentation.

PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE

The Practical Experience portion of this portfolio presents three of the projects that I had the opportunity to complete over the course of a Health Education internship. The first project listed is a professional portfolio created as a reflection of Culture and Health learnings abroad. The purpose of this portfolio was to capture the various sociocultural factors affecting health throughout the study abroad experience. PhotoVoice and Blog assignments document photographs and reflections on health-related topics. This portfolio serves as professional documentation for Culture and Health study abroad in Italy. As an intern at the University of Florida Department of Health Education, I assisted in designing and publishing various courses. My second project listed is the course Study Abroad Culture and Health (HSC 4950). Within this course, I assisted in the development of course construction and design elements as well as creation of announcements, assignments, and lecture PowerPoints. During my time at the Gulfcoast South Area Health Education Center, I participated in various professional trainings, seminars, and classes that focused on health literacy and tobacco cessation. For the last project listed, I conducted GSAHEC's first Urology Career Chat video for the Recruitment and Educational Assistance for Careers in Health (REACH) Programs. Career Chat videos enable students to learn from experienced health professionals, increase their knowledge about health careers, and motivate them to develop effective short and long-term educational and career plans.

INVOLVEMENT

Aside from academics, I also was also involved the Alpha Lambda chapter of Eta Sigma Gamma (ESG), UF's Health Education Honorary. I began as a general member in the middle of my junior year, then quickly rose to an Executive Board position at the start of my senior year. As Public Relations Officer, I assisted with operations across all social media platforms, organized and designed marketing materials for merchandise, and led the Marketing Team and creative vision for ESG's annual health education event, Sex in the Swamp. Furthermore, I received second place while representing ESG's Alpha Lambda chapter in the 2021-2022 National Health Education Case Study Competition. Moreover, I was recently elected to serve as Eta Sigma Gamma's President for the 2022-2023 school year. In this position, I will continue to exhibit exceptional leadership, assist in organizing events, and encourage member involvement for the 50+ member Alpha Lambda Chapter. Outside of Eta Sigma Gamma, I lead Marketing and Social strategy efforts for Green Greeks, a sustainability organization, in 2018. Furthermore, I participated in philanthropic fundraising efforts for St. Judes Children's Hospital under my membership in Tri Delta in the fall of 2018.
